TESS’s Northern Sky Vista

A circular view of the northern sky with segments unfolded like a fan. The sky is full of stars, with a bright band of white light running nearly up and down just to the left of the center. This bright band is the plane of the Milky Way.
NASA’s Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) spent nearly a year imaging the northern sky in its search for worlds beyond our solar system. The 13 sectors appear in the order TESS captured them in this animation.
