Houston, Tex. -- The 34th COSPAR Scientific Assembly/The Second World Space Congress will meet in Houston, Texas, on 10 - 19 October 2002 and among the sessions is "Session H0.2/E0.2: Particle Astrophysics and Cosmology: from Quarks to the Cosmos" from Friday Oct. 11 through Saturday Oct. 12.
Event Information
This event is co-sponsored by COSPAR Commissions E and H, as well as the IAC.
The symposium will try to address the scientific questions recently posed
by the Phase 1 report of the Committee on Physics and the Universe,
commissioned by the US National Academy of Sciences (and chaired by
Prof. Michael Turner.) This committee's second phase is expected to
conclude shortly before the symposium, with a set of recommendations for
scientific initiatives that cut across discipline (and funding agency)
boundaries, in an attempt to connect "physics at the most microscopic
scales to the properties of the universe and its contents on the largest
physical scales." Four half-day oral sessions will address: What is the
Universe made of ?, Fundamental Physics at High Redshift, What is the
Nature of Space and Time? and the Fundamental Physics of Compact Objects.
