Information for Attendees

Learn more about Afterschool Universe

We are currently soliciting applications for trainers who work with out-of-school-time networks to attend a train-the-trainer workshop in December 2010. You will attend an all expenses paid special three-day training workshop at NASA Goddard that will prepare you to run training workshops and bring the universe down to earth for your own communities.

This project intends to build strategic partnerships with well-established and diverse networks of afterschool programs across the country. Our goal is to build the capacity of afterschool networks to integrate this program into your portfolio so that you may offer training and implementation of the program within your network for years to come.

Science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) skills are a necessary component for most high paying jobs in the 21st century, and research shows that early engagement in STEM is more important than academic achievement in predicting career choice. Afterschool programs play a critical role in developing young people's interests and goals. Work with us to introduce students to STEM topics through NASA and astronomy!

There are two types of trainer opportunities available. All opportunities are for afterschool programs and trainers based in the United States only.

Network trainer (12 slots) – These trainers are associated with established afterschool networks such as a statewide afterschool networks, Girl Scouts, 4-H, etc. They will work within their network to offer trainings to program implementers. For the purposes of this project, we define networks to be afterschool program providers with at least 10 middle school locations.

AU Ambassador (3 slots) – These trainers are free agents who will be available to travel to sites or networks across the country that require training and do not have their own trainers. This opportunity will be highly competitive and will require additional qualifications.

Please select the type of training opportunity you are interested in.
